Can you believe the 94th season of the National Football League is scheduled to start in 55 days on September 5th and the camps all start late July?  These organizations have been preparing for the 2013 season before the 2012 season was even over.  There is a lot the goes on behind the scenes like scheduling flights, hotels, ticket sales, merchandise, food vendors hiring etc..  In July all the players will show up for camp, the coaches will bring everyone up to speed on the play book; they will run drills and watch to see what kind of shape the players are in.  Could you imagine what kind of chaos there would be if they waited until the last minute to get their team up to speed on the playbook and drills and just sent them out on the field? They would never win.

So are you ready for football season to start?  Maybe you’ve already purchased tickets or have season tickets. But, how prepared is your company for your season.  Do you wait until the last minute to think about marketing, training, scripts and new products?  It is never too late to start planning for the next season by staying ahead of the game and setting your team up to WIN.

Get your team together and start planning your fall playbook now.  Talk about things that went great last fall and things that you need to improve on.

  • Do you need to improve the information in your sales books for heat equipment?
  • Do you need to update any fall scripts?
  • Do you need to plan your marketing?
  • Do you need to get training on the schedule for any new products?
  • Is it time to put out a new price book?
  • Be sure all new office team members understand the winter services you provide?

You should never wait until you are in the season to start planning, the better prepared you are the less chaos you will create.  Your lack of planning should never be what causes your team stress.  Start delegating so you can start planning and then delegate again.  Let’s be sure we are striving for touchdowns and not just field goals.

Watch for the part 2 of this series where we'll dig into specific actions you should be looking at as we move into our next season.
