What Are You Waiting For?

Last year I began this column with the following question, "What are you waiting for?"

It's a question I like to ask myself, my clients, and our team members from time to time. What are we waiting for to make this year the best year of our lives? How can we make a positive impact and improve our lives in each of the key areas we spend time and energy on? We've all got family, friends, careers, and things we do to give back to society, etc.

Why not make 2013 your breakout year? We've seen a ton of change all across our companies regarding team members, training, cost of goods, and many more in the past 12 months, and now it's our time to capitalize on where we are and what we want to accomplish.

In Freedom Friday Focus last week, I wrote about why New Year's Resolutions don't work and what to do about it, but the reality is that GOAL setting does work. The only time a Resolution might work for anyone is when they tie some emotion to the "goal" and clearly understand why they want something to change.

I write and speak a lot about the topic of change because I believe it's one of the singular most important components of successful people. The ability to welcome change opens the door for improvement. I'm not talking about changing just for the sake of change, but rather a well thought out reason of WHY you want to create a change.

Perhaps in 2013 you'd like to learn a new skill, become a better communicator, and improve your sales and quality of presentations for your customers. That's all well and good, but you must be able to answer the benefit question of why you want the change. You certainly don't want to improve your communication skills just for the sake of doing it, right? But if you do become a better communicator with your spouse, children, team members, and last but not least, clients...what would be the inherent benefit to you by accomplishing these things?

More money? More Happiness? More balance in life?

It's a question only you can answer, but it's one of the most powerful questions you can ask yourself as we head into another great year. Feel how alive you are; find the passion that drives you for improvement. Make a decision. Life is all about choices and you must decide your fate for 2013 regardless of what's going on in the world around you. This isn't about the outside world; this is about you, your company, and your family!

I like this quote from Tony Robbins when he said, "A real decision is measured by the fact that you've taken a new action. If there's no action, you haven't truly decided." (Powerful statement!)

Let's decide to make 2013 everyone's best year EVER...together!
My very best,
Kenny
